Individual Therapy
Do you feel irritable, disengaged, or angry? Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, or a traumatic experience? Do you wonder if you should stay in your relationship? Or, has a painful event such as a divorce or death left you feeling overwhelmed or alone?
We start by completing a comprehensive assessment to better understand your strengths and needs. We then help you fully explore your situation and experience a felt sense of what is happening. Our therapists are often curious about what is happening physiologically (in your body), emotionally, mentally, and in your relationships. In addition, we consider larger systems that may also be impacting you such as culture, religion, social injustice, or generational patterns. Our therapists authentically share their observations and experiences of the problem, offering new and alternative ways of thinking about your situation. This allows you to more clearly know your self and challenges in your life, explore options available to you, and choose how you want to respond and move forward. In addition, our therapists use research-informed and evidenced-based techniques for long lasting and effective results. Our practice is based on cutting-edge scientific information about how the brain and nervous system work. We can help you heal on a deeper level, increasing your tolerance and resilience to life’s challenges.

Couples Therapy
Are you and your partner constantly fighting? Are you stuck on a particular issue such as finances, religion, or parenting? Is your sex life unsatisfying or non-existent? Are you attempting to recover from an affair? Is one of you contemplating divorce?
Our therapists use Emotionally Focused Therapy, an evidenced-based model that moves couples from distress to recovery in 70-75% of cases and creates improvement in 90% of couples coming in for therapy. Therapy involves exploration and identification of negative interactional patterns that occur in your relationship. These patterns are seen as the enemy that is separating you and your partner. Your therapist then guides you in a deeper understanding and expression of emotions that are driving these patterns. Coaching you in new, positive interactions, your therapist helps you rebuild and strengthen your connection. Whether you want to enrich your relationship or need support getting through a stressful period, couples therapy can improve feelings of safety, security, and trust.

Family Therapy
Is your family concerned about a specific family member’s behavior or emotions? Are you living in frequent conflict? Is your family struggling to adjust to a traumatic event, loss, or divorce? Or, have you tried your best to help your child and nothing seems to work? Feeling distant or at odds with our loved ones can be one of the most painful experiences. Our therapists can help your family heal and learn new, positive ways of interacting with one another.
Experience Change uses Attachment-Based interventions and Trauma Informed Care to help family members develop secure bonds with one another, increasing safety and respect. Your therapist will be assessing for possible, ineffective family patterns that may be keeping you stuck. In sessions, your therapist will guide you in understanding each other on a deeper level and help you change the way you interact with each other.
Children who have experienced sensory challenges, significant losses, or abuse/neglect, often need a consistent, patient model of treatment that celebrates small successes. Parents are encouraged to create an environment of playfulness, love, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy with their children. Steadily, therapists help parents move from a place of frustration, shame, or avoidance to a place of compassion, responsiveness, and engagement with their children. Based on your needs, family sessions may also include parenting education and exploration of additional resources.

Child/Teen Therapy
Is your child or teenager struggling and you don’t know how to help them? Has your child experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse, or trauma? Do you have concerns about any of the following: suicidal thoughts, self harming, refusal to attend school, poor academic achievement, substance use, disruptive behaviors, physical aggression, anger, anxiety, sensory issues, hyperactivity, sleep disturbance, boundaries, shutting down, defiance, isolation, depression, developmental disabilities, or intellectual disabilities?
Experience Change provides counseling to children and teenagers ages 0-18. When working with children, our therapists use Synergetic Play Therapy, the first research-informed model to blend neuroscience, attachment/attunement, therapist authenticity, physics, emotional congruence, nervous system regulation, and mindfulness/mindsight. While adults find relief in talking about their difficulties, children often cannot express their thoughts and feelings in words. Therefore, it is helpful for children to express themselves naturally through play. Play therapy allows children to recreate experiences in therapy that remind them of past or current challenges. In this controlled setting, our therapists help children become fully aware of their physical sensations, emotions, thoughts, and interactions with others. The therapist then teaches and models new ways the child can think about or respond to their challenges. Once the child begins to realize and try on these new choices, the therapist highlights these cognitive and behavioral changes to reinforce the pattern in the child’s brain and nervous system.
We always involve parents in the therapy process to enhance the child’s growth and development. Our therapists will provide you with frequent updates about your child’s progress and strategies you can utilize at home. At times, your therapist may recommend family therapy sessions to help you and your child practice new skills together.
