I grew up in an emotionally distant household. My parents loved me but didn’t know how to connect with me. As a result, I struggled to develop close relationships with myself and others.  I needed help understanding and organizing my emotions. And I needed someone to support me along this journey with empathy, authenticity and encouragement.  Thankfully, I received this support in my own therapy.  And, then I wanted to offer this to others.

I opened Experience Change in 2010.  Eager to provide the best care, I sought advanced training in several cutting-edge, experiential models of treatment.  I became fascinated with how the brain and body work, using this knowledge to understand the source of symptoms and behaviors, as well as the roadmap to healing and growth.  In addition, I studied the dynamics of relationships and learned how to help myself and others develop secure and satisfying relationships.  I began to grapple on a deeper level with my purpose, becoming astutely aware of my passion for working with those that are marginalized and oppressed.  As awareness of my privilege, harm caused, injustices witnessed, and responsibility increased, I realized that racism and discrimination are White, Cis-Gender, Straight, Able-Bodied people’s problems to address and correct.

My approach is focused on attunement with you.  Together, we will explore your history, identity, privilege, subduing, conditioning, larger systemic forces, inner thoughts, feelings, somatic experiences, dreams and desires, strengths, and relational interactions.  There is so much to explore!  We will then collaborate about what new options might work best for you.  This may include learning and practicing mindfulness, emotion regulation, self love, expanded perceptions, new relational skills, and bravery.  With practice and encouragement, you can master these new strategies and leave with improved resilience, confidence, and pride.

*In addition to seeing clients and leading Experience Change, Adria provides clinical supervision and consultation for team members, therapists in the Denver metro area, and internationally.

My favorite thing to do in my free time is get outside in nature.  I enjoy hiking, biking, camping, and water activities.  I also love learning about other cultures and traveling to new places.
