Becoming an LMFT Supervisor wasn’t something I initially planned.  During graduate school and my early years as a therapist, my focus was solely on supporting clients and obtaining enough hours to upgrade my licensure to an independent one.  It wasn’t until I was encouraged to supervise MFT graduate interns by my best friend that also worked with me, that I discovered how much I valued mentoring new therapists.  That experience made me realize I
wanted to be the kind of supervisor I had once needed—present, supportive, and genuinely invested.  I decided to create a positive, growth-focused experience for those I supervise.  Through this work, I hope to contribute to a more compassionate and collaborative mental health community.

My supervision approach is influenced by Developmental, Feminist, and Post-Modern models of supervision.  I approach supervision from an integrative lens; in order to have the most complete view possible.  It is my role as a supervisor to help the supervisee recognize and attend to issues of power and privilege regarding ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, et cetera.  It is also my role as a supervisor to create a collaborative environment in which the supervisee learns from myself as I learn from them, while recognizing that as the supervisor
I have inherent power within the relationship.  Also, within this collaborative environment I strive to ensure the supervisee feels appropriately challenged, empowered, and nurtured.  It is my job as a supervisor is to help the supervisee become a competent, self-assured, and independent therapist.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends or savoring a quiet moment to myself.  I’m a fan of what I lovingly call “grandma activities” — gardening, listening to good music, reading, and relaxing with a good cup of tea.
